North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is marking this year’s World Mental Health Day by promoting mental wellbeing to its staff.
This year’s theme is ‘mental health in the workplace’ and the CCG is supporting Time to Change, a growing movement that is changing how we all think and act about mental health.
The CCG, which is responsible for commissioning most health services across north east Essex, has developed a Mindfulness programme which is available to all staff.
Mindfulness is a form of meditation which, according to experts, allows participants to become more aware of the present moment which can help people to understand themselves better.
It can also help with overcoming mental and physical problems, work memory and concentration, assist staff to deal with difficult situations in the workplace as well as improve relationships with colleagues.
The CCG has also organised a number of workshops aimed at promoting staff welfare.
Victoria Robertson, Head of HR for North East Essex CCG who has organised the sessions for staff, said: “Mental health is one of the last remaining taboos in the workplace, yet one in six workers in the UK experience depression, anxiety or stress so this year’s World Mental Health Day theme of workplace wellbeing is really appropriate.”
To support the day, the CCG has put in place a number of events for its staff including a Ways to Wellbeing workshop by Essex Mind, a stress workshop by Health in Mind, a nutrition and mental health presentation by a clinical nutritionist and a mindfulness walk.
Victoria added: “Our employees’ health and wellbeing is of paramount importance to us and by giving them tips, advice and guidance to support their health and wellbeing, including their mental health, makes for more resilient and happier employees.”
