The CCG engaged with local residents about changes to Clacton and Harwich Hospital from July to September 2018. Following a £15m award from central government in March 2018 to support the creation of a new ‘Community Hub’ at Clacton Hospital as well as £3m to invest in Fryatt Hospital, we proposed plans on how to spend these funds, affecting community inpatient wards at Fryatt Hospital, a new 'Community Hub' at Clacton Hospital and the redevelopment of hospital buildings.
This engagement received 422 responses from across north east Essex, mostly from Clacton and Harwich. We learned that local residents were happy to see improvements to local healthcare services and to see the better use of hospital services, but there were also concerns including the range of healthcare available, transport and the ageing population. As a result, the NHS North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group would like to thank those that have taken the opportunity to take part in this engagement exercise. The Community Beds project group are continuing to work through in detail the issues and concerns raised as part of the engagement exercise which will help inform our final decision on the community beds provision in north east Essex. We are aiming to have this detail completed for April 2019.
