North East Essex - Health In Mind

Talking Therapies services

Do you sometimes feel...?

Anxious

Depressed

Stressed

Fed up and tearful

Worried all the time

Unable to cope

Lonely

Our Health In Mind service provides talking therapies and practical support for people experiencing low mood, depression and a range of anxiety problems. These problems are often referred to as ‘Common Mental Health’ and can include stress, panic, phobia, obsessional compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties.

Health In Mind has two main centres in Colchester and Clacton with many different community venues across North East Essex.

If you are feeling low or anxious and would like support, you may discuss this with your GP who can arrange a referral for you.

Alternatively you may wish to self-refer in which case you can contact the service directly - please see the North East Essex IAPT website for more details.

…."It’s amazing how talking about this and learning some techniques to use has completely changed my life. I wish I had admitted the problem years ago, and sought help. The service was fantastic, very understanding caring and helpful”….

Once we have received your referral, a service administrator will contact you to book a telephone assessment with one of the trained clinical staff. During the assessment Health In Mind will work with you to understand the main problems you are currently experiencing and discuss which type of treatment available could be most beneficial.

…."The person who I spoke to was very patient and good at explaining things I didn’t fully understand”….

Treatment Options:

Depending on your particular requirements you will be offered a number of support options, which may include:

  • Guided self-help either over the telephone of face-to-face
  • Computerised cognitive behaviour therapy which you can access using any internet connection
  • Advice and support around practical issues such as housing, employment, family problems, or finances including help to access complementary support
  • Courses dealing with anxiety and depression
  • Cognitive behaviour therapy, either individually or in a group

Many of the options offered by Health In Mind are based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) – which has been shown through research to be a highly effective therapy for people experiencing anxiety or depression. CBT focuses on the ‘here and now’ rather than the past which involves looking at the way you think, and your way of coping, in order to identify changes that you can make to that may help you to feel better.

…."I feel that the sessions I had were of great benefit – being able to talk to someone has helped. I feel more comfortable talking about my issues rather than keeping them to myself – I feel much better”….
